    1- Optoelectronics devices
    2- Hall effect devices, only for metallic objects

-What are the applications best suited for loose arrangements ?
      1- If the position over time of the object is random or changing constantly
      2- If the conditions of use are challenging: moisture/ high temperature/ presence of electromagnetic fields/ corrosive atmosphere
      3- If the distance to the object is large
      4- If the objects are big in size 

-What are the selection parameters for loose arrangements ?
       1- Light intensity on axis of the emitter
       2- Photoreceiver function:
                                                   Phototransistor for low optical power budget
                                                   Photodarlington for application circuits requiring high output current
                                                   Logic Photoreceivers for simple ON/OFF output

- What are the applications best suited for Photointerrupters ?
          1- Small objects, plastic or metal
          2- Positions well defined, usually "in" or "out" 

-What are the selection parameters for Photointerrupters ?
              1- Slot with and depth
              2- Overall outline to fit in a limited space
              3- Phototransistor output for average current requirements
              4- Photodarlington output for high output current requirements
              5- Logic photoreceivers for easy to use output signals (ON/OFF)
